Meet Tara Gilvar! | Morris Bernards Moms

Where are you originally and how long have you lived in town?
I’m a Jersey girl. I’m originally from Sussex County where I lived since I was eight years old until college. I have lived in Bernardsville with my husband and my children for the past 15 years.

Children/Age
I’m now an empty nester. My oldest daughter Lauren is 23. She graduated from Wake Forest University and now works in North Carolina. My son is 21 and is a senior at Boston University. My youngest daughter Kendall is now a freshman at George Washington University in Washington DC.

Favorite things to do with your kids
We love to travel together. Years ago, we house swapped with a family in Ireland and had an amazing experience and were truly able to experience the Irish culture in an authentic and unique way. Now, we like to go anywhere warm with a beach when our schedules align.

Are you involved in a business venture or corporate world? Please share!
Yes. 12 years ago, almost accidentally, I started a women’s empowerment organization called Believe Inspire Grow (B.I.G.). We help women – especially suburban women – find the inspiration, community and tools they need to move their lives forward – both professionally and personally. Since 2009, we have had nearly 5,000 members and we currently have about 500 amazing members here in New Jersey spread over 20+ communities.

If you could give one tip to fellow Mom Entrepreneurs what would it be?
Don’t let your fear or personal insecurity hold you back. You are smart enough to figure it out!

One thing people would be surprised to know about you.
In high school I wasn’t a gifted athlete, but all my friends joined track and I wanted to be a part of the team. The one sport I was pretty good at surprisingly was the shot put. So I threw the shot put in high school and it’s been a funny story for the past 30 years.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
I get inspired and empowered by surrounding myself with like-minded, talented and gifted women – and in this area there is an endless supply. There are so many companies, organizations and non profits being formed and/or run by women who are authentically passionate and dedicated to helping other women and their families lives better and more fulfilling lives. It’s simple awesome to witness.
