Rosemary D’Urso of Library Mom Books

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I’m originally from Vero Beach, Florida, but after meeting my husband who is a native of Mendham, I couldn’t think of a better place to raise our family. We moved here about seven years ago and I have loved every day of it.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

I have a son who is six-years-old and a daughter who is three-years-old.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I am a pretty upbeat and cheerful person, so people are usually surprised to learn that I love dark and scary movies and books.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

I’d like to thank all the other mom bloggers out there who post easy and educational activities to do with children. These activities have made every hot summer afternoon and snow day so much more manageable. They have also helped me identify fun ways to help build my children’s fine and gross motor skills and alphabet and number recognition.

Favorite things to do with your kids?

My favorite part of each day is when I get to read to my children. No matter how crazy the day has been, in that one moment I can let go of everything else and just enjoy the extra cuddling time and watching them become immersed in the wonderful world of books.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

When I decided to leave my job as an elementary school librarian to become a stay-at-home mom, I wasn’t ready to hang up my bookmarks entirely. I was spending a lot of time e-mailing friends book lists for their children, so I decided to start a website reviewing books to better guide parents and teachers to some of the standout picture books and early chapter books the children in their lives will adore.

I read professional journals and partner with authors, publishers, and public relation firms to identify the best new books to share with children. I test each story with my children and only post the ones that our family feels a connection with. My hope is that the book suggestions on my website and Instagram will help children fall in love with reading and will inspire them to become life-long readers.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

I also sit on the board of the Mendham Borough Library. I am so grateful for the incredible programs they offer for both children and adults and the amazing access I have to books. While our library may be small, they participate in an inter-library loan program that gives card members access to books located in Morris County libraries. Just about every book that I review comes from the Mendham Borough Library. I am happy to donate back my time on the Board because I cannot imagine my family’s life without the library and their remarkable services.
